Sounds like a blast!

It also sounds like Christopher Priest is hanging around for the foreseeable future. I have no reason to think otherwise but he has done such a marvelous job with this character that I dread the day he leaves him so I'm always on watch for some sign that he will.

Unlike the Lazarus Contract story from a couple of years ago, it doesn't appear that the other Titans team (the non-teen one) will be involved in this one. That's too bad because Deathstroke truly does not have much history with this Teen team. he's certainly built some with Damian Wayne at a rapid pace, as well, as kid Flash, but I don't believe he's had any interaction with the other members.

Also, I thought Slade Wilson's identity as Deathstroke was public anyway so I'm not sure what Gordon is actually revealing to anyone.  But then, maybe one of the great many universal reboots at DC has done away with all that. Who can keep track anymore?

Deathstroke / Yogi Bear Variants

When the Deathstroke / Yogi Bear special was announced, the cover below was displayed as the main cover.

Recently, this second cover was revealed as a variant.

But Forbidden Planet, which calls itself the "the largest UK stockist of the latest comics and graphic novels" displays a different cover.

They make no reference to the above cover being another variant. They seem to list it as the regular cover. Perhaps a different cover is being used for the European market? In any event, I found it difficult to come by and therefore thought it might be worth sharing.

Deathstroke, Jericho, To Appear in Titans TV Series

The following test is lifted from cbr.com.
Fans of the professional mercenary Deathstroke and his son, Jericho, will be pleased to hear that the duo will be coming to DC Universe’s upcoming live-action series Titans. The news was revealed today at New York Comic Con by one of the show’s executive producers, Geoff Johns.
While Johns confirmed that Deathstroke will be showing up in Titans given enough time, he did make the curious addendum that the series’ Deathstroke might not be one fans are familiar with.
“You’ll see Deathstroke in Titans eventually, but it’ll be a new version,” said Johns. “You’ll definitely see it in the show.”
What exactly this means is anyone’s guess, but any changes made to the character could be meant to differentiate him from his various live-action incarnations in both the Arrowverse and the DC Extended Universe.
Deathstroke was a fixture on The CW’s Arrow for some time, where he was played by Manu Bennett. The character was also featured in an after-credits stinger for the film Justice League, where he was played by Joe Manganiello. Manganiello is rumored to be reprising that role for Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman solo movie.
Deathstroke’s son, Joe Wilson, otherwise known as Jericho, has far less live-action representation. The character was played by Liam Hall on Arrow, but only appeared for a brief time. At the DC Universe panel, DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee revealed that Jericho will likely be making his way into the show, too.
“Last night at dinner, Geoff and I were talking about Jericho,” said Lee. “So yes, definitely.”
...
There’s no telling what form Deathstroke and Jericho will take in DC Universe’s Titans series, but, if the trailers for the series are any indication, there will likely be ample cussing and lots of blood when they show up.
As there should be!

I just happened to read that a second Titans season is already planned so it may be a while until we see out favourite merc but it's great news nonetheless. I couldn't care less about Jericho, to tell the honest truth, but since Deathstroke's daughter Rose was once a Titan, the dark and violent tone would appear to make her a natural no-brainer of a fit. Fingers crossed.

Also, comicbook.com added that the quote above was said in reference to adapting The Judas Contract storyline.
When talking about a possible adaptation of "The Judas Contract," Johns told the audience at the panel that they "would be fools not to," Johns said. Given that Deathstroke is the major villain in that comic storyline, Titans would have to introduce him on the series sooner than later.
Titans debuts October 12th on the dcuniverse.com streaming service.

Deathstroke 36 Solicitation

In addition to the team-up (or battle against, whatever) with Yogi Bear, Deathstroke's own title continues in October with issue 36. What's in store following his scrap with Batman? Let's find out, courtesy of First Comics News this time.

DEATHSTROKE #36

“Deathstroke: Arkham” starts here!

After being declared criminally insane, Deathstroke is committed to the infamous Arkham Asylum! It isn’t long before the hunter becomes the hunted as Slade, powerless and weaponless, is targeted by some of Gotham City’s most wanted. But after initially mocking and contravening the system meant to help him, Deathstroke learns that his only hope for survival may be to confront his own inner demons.
ON SALE 10.03.18
$3.99 US | 32 PAGES
I had a moment of thinking "this again" until it struck me that...Deathstroke has never been in Arkham. The closest he's come is being included in a couple of the Arkham series of video games. And why should he be? He's not insane no matter what the solicitation text says, though clearly someone makes a convincing argument.

DEATHSTROKE / YOGI BEAR SPECIAL #1

I can't say I ever envisioned a day where Yogi Bear would have his own tag on this blog...

Building on recent success with other DC Comics/Hanna-Barbera team-ups, we have one of the world's great hunters stalking one of the most elusive animals in the forest.

In Yellowstone Park, legends speak of a spirit bear referred to as “the Yogi,” which few if any have actually encountered. Real or not, when a bear seems to have graduated from stealing picnic baskets to kidnapping actual campers, Ranger Smith decides it’s time to stop this menace—so he calls on the services of Slade Wilson—a.k.a. Deathstroke—to get the job done.

Got to admit, Yogi's looking pretty bad-ass there though...Credit where it's due, I first came across the above information on Bleeding Cool.

I believe this is the final part of the Batman vs Deathstroke mini-series-within-a-series. We'll wait and see if the Deathstroke title can retain some of the additional readership it picked up as a result of the bat's guest-appearance.

It’s part five of “Batman vs. Deathstroke,” and “The Stormy Present” finds our two marquee combatants locked in the Batcave, forced to resolve their differences—or die trying! And Deathstroke shows Batman he’s not the only detective in town, as Slade closes in on the mystery of his relationship with Robin.
ON SALE 08.01.18
$3.99 US | 32 PAGES

I mentioned in the post about the solicitation for #33 that I'd want to have a look at the sales figures for the first installment of this six-part story. Based on what is provided by Comichron, issue 31 sold almost 39,000 copies. I don't believe that digital sales and such are included. That's good for 40th place for the month.

But is it good?  Only if the book can ride that momentum for a while. The previous issue sold well under 18,000 and placed 115th for the month. An intriguing guest-appearance by Batman and family is an excellent way to potentially showcase the book's quality to a new audience but it's going to have to stick. Those sales figures for #30 are about at the cancellation level.

That aside, Deathstroke will appear in the trade Paperback for Justice League: Justice Lost (issues 39-43 of the regular series) as well as Justice League: No Justice, both out in September.

Deathstroke #33 Solicitation

Aside from the Beach Blanket Special mentioned a few days ago, Deathstroke's 33rd issue hits stores in July as the second half of the Deathstroke vs. Batman storyline begins.

Written by CHRISTOPHER PRIEST
Art by CARLO PAGULAYAN and JASON PAZ
Cover by ROBSON ROCHA and DANIEL HENRIQUES
Cariant cover by FRANCESCO MATTINA
Forced to team with Deathstroke, a man he loathes, Damian Wayne must discover the truth of his lineage. Is he really Bruce Wayne’s son, or is Slade Wilson his true father? As Batman draws closer to finding them both, Deathstroke must complete a hit, while Robin shadows the killer for hire.
ON SALE 07.04.18
$3.99 US | 32 PAGES
Despite getting terrific reviews, Deathstroke's sales totals were starting to tickle cancellation territory, based on March results on Comichron. I'm going to make a point to see how much of a bump the Batman guest-appearance gives him in April.

Justice League #43 Out Today

When solicitations are revealed and a title has two issues released in the same month, DC will display the cover for only one of them. That's what happened when the solicitation for Justice League #43 was sent out and so I admit I'm seeing this cover for the first time today!

“JUSTICE LOST” finale! Struggling to save one of their own and extricate themselves from the grip of war, the Justice League’s hand is forced by the mercenary Deathstroke! Decisions must be made about Red Lion’s brutality, the insidious tactics of the Fan and the League’s role as the World’s Greatest Heroes. When the dust settles, will the old alliances still stand?
David Yardin is the cover artist. Captures the classic look quite nicely, thank you.

On sale JULY 25
ONE-SHOT • PRESTIGE FORMAT • 80 pg, FC, $9.99 US • RATED T+
No cover appearance but Deathstroke's story is significant enough to get mentioned in the solicitation. Working with averages, it would be about 8 pages long so I'm not sure if I want to shell out that kind of cash for it. I may just gamble that it will show up in a trade at some point down the road. As usual though, it's just good to see him included.

Deathstroke 1/4 scale Status by Stiven Trujillo Sanchez

I don't collect action figures, statues, busts and what-not but I do love coming across them and appreciate the talent a work involved.

I believe I was introduced to the piece below on Pinterest. After some digging, I found out that it is the work of Stivens Trujillo Sanchez. If you're dying to get your hands on it, well, you'll need to contact the man himself because it was apparently a custom piece. Can't get this one on Amazon.

Love the batarang stuck in the gargoyle and the rifle resting behind him. Excellent work. If you want to have a closer look, check out Sanchez' Art Station page.

We already knew about Deathstroke being involved in Justice League: No Justice as a member of Team Entropy. Here's a look at the wraparound cover for that book.

On sale OCTOBER 24 • 560 pg, FC, $75.00 US • ISBN: 978-1-4012-8475-6
Interesting. There's no doubt that Mr. Daniels has his fair share of fans but I didn't think this run warranted a hardcover omnibus. It has its moments and the art is often spectacular but much of the material, which was mostly inconsistent with the character's history, appears to have been cast aside with DC's Rebirth. I get that they want to give Deathstroke the proverbial "push" over the next few months/years but doing it partially through this series seems peculiar.

Deathstroke Is A Member Of Team Entropy This May!

Abbreviated text from this IGN article.
The conclusion of DC Comics event Dark Nights: Metal will bring about some big changes for the Justice League comic line, IGN has learned from DC.
Following the events of Metal, which ends on March 14 with Issue #6, there will be a four-issue weekly miniseries that kicks off on May 9 called Justice League: No Justice co-written by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Joshua Williamson with art by Francis Manapul.
Upon concluding, ‘No Justice’ will set the stage for a family of Justice League comics starting in June, with the flagship title being written by Snyder and the others by Tynion, Williamson, and more. No artists have been revealed for any of these titles.
...
The plot of ‘No Justice’ sees Brainiac warn the Justice League about a cosmic-level threat on the way to destroy Earth. When the heroes find out that even the combined might of the Justice League (including some unlikely new recruits) isn’t enough to stop it, Brainiac advises them with a plan. His strategy involves the heroes allying with villains and splitting up into four specialized teams. The fate of a different alien world depends on the success of each team, but if they fail, it’s game over not just for Earth but the entire DC Universe.

A "family" of Justice League titles. The groups include traditional heroic league members, magic users, aliens and...villains.

Might we get a team of reformed villains once all tis is said and done? Luthor, Lobo and Harley Quinn arguably meet that description. Deathstroke has walked that tightrope for decades. Maybe Justice League Dark takes a whole new meaning.

The dynamic would be pretty terrific, if handled correctly. Deathstroke has history with all of those characters, if one chooses to take volumes two and three of his series into account. You could pull Clayface from Detective Comics and Captain Cold from the Flash books flirted with being on the side of the angels for a while. I'm only speculating but this could be a cool deal.

Good News / Bad News Delivered by Bleeding Cool

First the bad news: It should have struck me that a Batman/Deathstroke book to accompany Deathstroke's regular series was too good to be true, but I was blinded by hopeful optimism. Alas, it it instead a story-within-the-series.

It seems like a hell of a tale, though. Right-click the image below and open it in a new tab (and thanks again to BC for providing the information in this format, I love that).

Deathstroke vs. Batman” part one! Beginning this month, a six-issue series-within-a-series featuring the ultimate showdown between DC’s fiercest rivals!
When Batman discovers a mysterious package containing DNA test results proving that he is not Damian Wayne’s biological father, the Dark Knight sets his sights on his son’s true father — Deathstroke! But Damian Wayne can’t really be Slade Wilson’s son — can he? And who sent the package — and why? The ultimate custody battle ensues as the World’s Greatest Detective and the World’s Deadliest Assassin clash in this instant classic!
Rose and Damian as brother and sister. Hilarious. I can't wait for this.

The good news is that Deathstroke does make a guest appearance in another book in April. It was a matter of time, really.

Written by Dan Abnett, art by Viktor Bogdanovic, cover by John Romita Jr. and Sandra Hope.
“Payback Time,” part one!

The Silencer has been targeted by every hit man, meta-mobster and weapons-depot dropout that the Leviathan organization has to offer — now it’s time for Honor Guest to take the fight back to them! Too bad Deathstroke has other plans.
Silencer squares off against Slade Wilson as we kick off a brand-new epic! And this duo’s devastating past run-in will leave you speechless!
32 pages, $2.99, in stores on April 25.
That cover makes it look like the barrel of her gun is nearly poking out of the back of his head!

There's potential there for Deathstroke to hang around for a few issues so let's keep an eye out for that. I'mcurious about this character anyway so if he showed up in the back end of a trade, I'd be all over that.

Our favourite mass murdered also see the fourth book of volume one reprints, called Crash Or Burn, released on May 9th.
Deathstroke returns in these 1990s tales to battle the Vigilante, Fire and Blood, and Janissary!
Then, Slade Wilson must enter the Black Dome — and he might not make it out alive.
Collects Deathstroke, The Terminator #21-25, plus Deathstroke, The Terminator Annual #2, featuring the origin of Gunfire!
If there's one character more forgettable than Gunfire, it's certainly Janissary. That was his one and only appearance.

And on top of all that, he will appear in a Titans trade paperback reprinting the dismal Total Chaos storyline that crossed over the Titans family of books at the time.0
A threat from the future has come to the present to destroy the Titans: Donna Troy’s son, Lord Chaos! Bringing with him a futuristic army, the would-be hero turned despot faces Titans past and present in the heroes’ greatest conflict to date. However, when the battle becomes too much for even these super-teams, will they be able to turn to their greatest foe, Deathstroke, for assistance?

This timeless crossover from one of the greatest creative teams of all time is finally here! Collects New Titans #90-92, Deathstroke, the Terminator #14-16 and Team Titans #1-3.
Get it for Nightwing's mullet. I'm pretty sure he was still rocking that thing at that point.

And finally, he has significant involvement in the New Teen Titans Omnibus hardcover third volume.
In this third massive collection of the hit 1980s series, now back in print, the team battles the villainy of H.I.V.E., faces the evil Dr. Light, witnesses the trial of Deathstroke, and tries to rescue the dark hero known as Raven from her own father, Trigon.
Collects Tales of The Teen Titans #42-68, The New Teen Titans (second series) #1-9 and Tales of The Teen Titans Annual #3.
336 pages! If you're buying specifically for Slade, you might want to track down a trade of The Judas Contract and leave it that. The trial is entirely forgettable. Almost as forgettable as Gunfire. Most of the rest of the material doesn't include Deathstroke at all.

Still, a pretty high-profile month for him. That's always comforting.

Deathstroke Vs. Batman

Credit to Bleeding Cool.

Looking forward to an official announcement for this when the April solicitations are revealed. I assumed it's a mini-series and not a replacement to the regular Deathstroke title. To my knowledge, Deathstroke still sells well enough to continue for a while longer.

I'm curious as to the reason for the feud as well. It isn't as though these two haven't crossed paths numerous times in the past. They did in the City of Assassins story from volume one (issues 6 to 9) and in issue 4 of volume three in early 2015. Sandwiched between the two was a lengthy scrap in Detective Comics 710 in 1997, the cover to which, interestingly, was also done by Lee Weeks.

More recently, Deathstroke (and Deadshot) appeared briefly in part 3 of The War Of Jokes And Riddles in the main Batman book...

...and of course Batman also showed up in Deathstroke's current book. And that encounter was pure genius. Two strategic masterminds "fighting" one another without throwing a punch. It had been quite some time since I'd read something that cleverly done.

Christopher Priest wrote that issue so naturally expectations will be high for the Deathstroke/Batman book. He's set himself a high bar but there's every reason to believe he'll deliver.
